The Lynx Lodge

Collective Shout recently alerted supporters to the promotion of ‘The Lynx Lodge.’ The Lynx Lodge is dubbed the ‘ultimate man-cation’ where the ‘Lynx Minxes’ will cater to your every need. Apparently they will provide ‘on demand’ shoulder rubs as well as constant visual stimulation. A common theme regarding the Lynx Minxes is ‘tell them what to do.’ Lynx claim that there is no sexual contact allowed, but the language they use to promote the Lodge speaks volumes.

“The ultimate man-cation destination to get you back to your primal roots.”

“Get laid back, as lodge staff pamper you with breakfast in bed and on-the-spot massages.”

“Golf range: Grab your wood.”

“Pool hall: Scared of being beaten by a girl? Some of our guests quite enjoy it.”

“Ball Games: Teamwork is everything, so be sure to focus on your partner’s backside to make out her block signals.”

As Melinda Tankard Reist said on her blog, The Lynx Lodge represents Lynx’s foray into the sex industry. Most disturbing since their target market is teenage boys. The competition Lynx are currently running to win a stay at the Lodge, says you must be over 16 to enter. So they’re saying this is suitable for 16 year olds?

Curiously, the Lake Macquarie Council have indicated that they know nothing about a development called “The Lynx Lodge.” They believe the Lodge might be a hoax. However, this raises other questions. There is currently a competition to win a stay at the Lynx Lodge, if the Lodge is a hoax, what prize are they offering? They have to offer something, otherwise this would be false advertising.

What is not a hoax, is Lynx’s contempt for women. The promotion of ‘The Lynx Lodge’ continues.

Take Action!

Contact Unilever (Lynx’s parent company) here.

Write to the Lord Mayor and Council members of Lake Macquarie and urge them to take action against Lynx using their city to promote the Lynx Lodge. You can find the full list of council members contact details here. Contact details for the Mayor of Lake Macquarie can be found here.

Though council suspects the Lodge is a hoax, you might like to make the following points in your message to them:

  • Lynx is promoting the Lynx Lodge as being placed at Lake Macquarie
  • What will council do to prevent Lynx from continuing to tarnish the image of Lake Macquarie?

UPDATE

The Lynx Lodge competition has been won by a woman.

She is said to be “very happy” with her win – but whether she will fully appreciate being surrounded by sexy female models offering mud wrestling, massages and purring wake up calls is not yet known
It would appear that Lynx enthusiasts aren’t too happy with the fact that a woman has won the prize!

The fact that a woman won the prize does not change the sexist nature of this competition and venue, which appears to be mostly a marketing ploy. (The ‘bookings’ facility on their website takes you back to the home page which says ‘this competition has now closed.)

The purpose of a competition like ‘The Lynx Lodge’ is to allow all of the sexist, porn themed advertising and marketing to take place in the lead up to the actual event. This took the form of television advertising, print advertising, online viral marketing and outdoor promotions such as the ‘pop up spa’ in Sydney’s Martin Place. The Lynx Lodge was yet another way for Lynx to objectify women to sell it’s product.

It was great to see women and men speak out against this promotion and continue to put the pressure on Unilever (Lynx’s parent company) to stop objectifying women. This issue was also picked up by news.com.au and while some may see this as ‘free advertising for Lynx’ we see it as yet another opportunity to speak out against the sexual objectification of women. This is a message we are keen to get out there as often as possible. Silence has never changed anything and never will.

Well done to all who participated in this campaign. But no time to rest, there is still more to be done! Lynx still Stynx!
