Your financial contribution will make a difference.
Thank you for your interest in the cause of Collective Shout: for a world free of sexploitation.
We are seeking your assistance to build on the success we have already seen.
Collective Shout is a dynamic, grassroots social advocacy movement. Collective Shout mobilises and equips individuals and groups to target corporations, advertisers, marketers and media which objectify women and sexualise girls in order to sell products and services.
With your help, Collective Shout is already naming, shaming and exposing these companies and bringing them to account.
Some of our achievements include
- The launch of a our social networking site which has attracted over 850 members;
- Attracting significant media interest with one of our founders, Melinda Tankard Reist, giving regular media interviews about Collective Shout – sometimes on a daily basis. Additionally her blog on the issues that concern us has attracted thousands of hits during this time (www.melindatankardreist.com.au);
- The removal of ‘Tweenage push-up’ bras for girls aged 6-12 from the shelves of Best&Less, 24 hours after we protested;
- Cotton On agreeing to remove baby and toddler clothing with sexualised slogans;
- Significant collaboration with national and international organisations working on the same issues.
Collective Shout has inspired and empowered people to take action in their local communities. Many dynamic new initiatives are springing up.
For example, one of our members, Beth Mitchell – only 18 at the time – initiated a social networking campaign against porn in corner stores, milkbars, 7-Elevens and petrol stations. Thanks to the support of the CS member network and its social media power, many have signed up to her Facebook campaign. At the time of writing, the campaign had 1, 603 members.http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=111981422153574&ref=ts
Another supporter, Caitlin, initiated a campaign against ‘porn t-shirts.’ Caitlin wrote an open letter to retailers asking them to cease the sale and distribution of clothing with pornographic imagery. This letter attracted over 60 prominent signatories. Read the letter here.
Collective Shout is for anyone concerned about the increasing pornification of culture and the way its messages have become entrenched in mainstream society, presenting distorted and dishonest ideas about women and girls, sexuality and relationships.
A common response has been – “at last”! So many people, from diverse backgrounds, have come together in agreement that the wallpapering of the cultural landscape with hypersexualised, demeaning messages, has gone too far and has to stop.
If all our supporters were able to give a regular monthly gift, we would have significant ongoing funds to continue challenging the sexual objectification of women and girls in our culture. We welcome any donation, no matter how big or small.
We also offer sponsorship packages for companies. If your company believes in our cause and would like to invest in it, we can offer co-branding arrangements which will work to our mutual benefit.
We would be delighted if you – the individuals who form the ‘Collective’ in Collective Shout – would give financially to our energetic cultural change movement whose time has come. You also may have skills to offer to help advance our cause.
Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you would like to know more.
With thanks,
From The Collective Shout team
Melinda Tankard Reist, Melinda Liszewski, Deborah Malcolm, Lydia Jade Turner, Sarah McMahon, Louise Schebella, Tessa Rossington & Collett Smart
